Why Chough Rock?
Chough Rock was named after a distinct rock on the Cornish south coast, which was nicknamed after an actual rock that Martin had photographed with a chough perfectly perched on the edge (see below).

Author Martin Yelland wrote their first book ‘Choughs and Chums’ in 2017 while Zoe (Illustrator) was pregnant with their first child, while out walking the Cornish coast and photographing choughs. Initially he wrote the first version of Choughs and Chums on his mobile phone with his camera at the ready in his other hand.
Zoe based her quirky illustrations on Martin’s photographs, their first book ‘Choughs and Chums’ was initially created for their son Noah as a meaningful first Christmas present but then friends requested copies and it continued from there. In 2018 they self-published their first book which has since become their best seller with copies being sent all around the world from Cornwall to Australia and Dubai.
In 2019 coinciding with the birth of Martin and Zoe’s second son Ruan, Martin wrote ‘Kerra the Kingfisher’, which was based around the bird life in their local riverside village of St Erth.
