Chough Rock

Chough Rock is a Cornwall-based independent children’s book publisher, creating nature-inspired wildlife story books for young children. Founded by husband-and-wife team Martin and Zoë Yelland, Chough Rock specialises in beautifully illustrated children’s books that encourage a love of nature, wildlife and the outdoors.

Inspired by Cornwall’s landscapes and native animals, our books are designed to help children explore, appreciate and protect the natural world from an early age.

Their rhyming children’s story books are perfect bedtime reads for children aged 2–8 years. Full of gentle humour, warmth and memorable characters, they are ideal for young animal lovers, nature enthusiasts and early readers.

Each book features bold, colourful artwork illustrated from real-life wildlife photography by author Martin Yelland. The original photographs are included at the back of every book, helping children learn to identify birds and animals in the wild. This unique approach makes these books especially popular with budding birdwatchers and young wildlife explorers.

Kerra the Kingfisher (2020) – A vibrant children’s nature book celebrating one of Britain’s most colourful birds.
Badger Bill (2023)– A wildlife picture book published in support of the Badger Trust, helping raise awareness of native British animals.
Choughlets and Chums (2025)– Our latest children’s nature story book and the long-awaited sequel to the bestseller Choughs and Chums.

Martin writes the stories while Zoë illustrates and produces the books, making Chough Rock a true family-run children’s publishing business.
